Group Leadership Project-Brainstorming session

Group 3 met in a web conference using the online tool Vyew. All of our members were present. We had difficulties using the Vyew program. The microphones didn’t work very well so we only used the chat function to communicate with each other. There was a document that we were able to collaborate on. We used this document to record our ideas for our project. It was difficult to write on the document because the text box feature didn’t function well. However even with our technological setbacks, we were still able to communicate and develop our project.

We choose to focus our project on Google Documents and Google Presenter. We will create a tutorial that will describe how to use these programs and the features that these programs offer. We decided that we would present our tutorial in the form of a slide cast using PowerPoint. We broke down the components of the project and assigned a role to each member. Here are the responsibilities of each group member:

1) introduction, how to create a login (Kris)

2) Google docs basics, compare to Word (Brittany)

3) Google Presenter basics, compare to PowerPoint (Karey)

4) how to share the docs- email, link, blog, etc, and a conclusion (Andrell)

5) put 4 PowerPoint parts together, add transitions, etc (Lisa)

6) create/edit voice recording, match the recording with the slides and transitions

We decided that our project will contain 4 PowerPoints that we will put together into a completed project. Each PowerPoint will include information as well as either screenshots or recordings of the screen. Each section will be about 2.5 minutes in length. We will submit the individual sections to Lisa and Liat and they will turn the individual power points into a finished project.

Our group has been using the discussion forum on Angel as a form of communication with each other. We have also been sending emails back and forth. We will continue to communicate in this form. Our group is also interested in finding an online web conferencing tool that we can use for free to help us discuss our ideas in a whole group setting in real time. We found Vyew difficult to use so we met for a second time using Yugma. This program worked a little better. However the free version only allowed for a 15 minute conversation to take place. It allowed us to communicate with each other using a chat feature. It also offered a teleconference option that we could call into with our phones. Yugma allowed for the meeting to be recorded but the free version of the program doesn’t allow for the teleconference to be recorded. There are many advantages to using a web conferencing tool. We will continue to research so that we can find one that meets our needs. The advantages include being able to communicate with each other in real time. Web conferences are also beneficial because they offer screen sharing. The disadvantage of web conferencing tools is that it is costly to use the full features of the programs. I have attempted to upload our web conference. I am still researching how to upload it to blogger.

Here is a 5 minute video of what our online meeting
